Day 23: I Choose to See the Good in Myself and Others
A Personal Reflection
There was a time when I was my own worst critic. No matter how much I accomplished, I would find flaws. I spoke words of encouragement to others but held myself to an impossible standard. I also found it hard to trust kindness from others—was it genuine? Did they mean it?
One day, I had a conversation with a mentor who told me something that changed my perspective:
“The way you see others often reflects how you see yourself. If you focus on the flaws, you’ll always find them. But if you look for the good, you’ll be surprised by how much beauty exists in people—including yourself.”
That hit me hard. I realized I wasn’t just hard on myself but also quick to assume the worst in others.
So I made a choice: I would look for the good.
I would compliment instead of criticizing.
I would give people grace, just as I needed grace.
I would accept kindness without questioning its motives.
And something shifted. I started feeling lighter. Smiling more. Connecting with people more deeply. Because when you choose to see the good, you attract more of it.
