If I Had a Personal Mission Statement And What Jesus’ Would Say

Every organization has a mission statement a declaration of purpose, vision, and intent. But have you ever stopped to ask yourself, “What’s my mission statement?”

Not what I do, not what I’ve been through, but why I’m here.

My Personal Mission Statement

If I were to define mine, it would say something like this:

“To live authentically, love intentionally, and lead purposefully and using my story, my voice, and my gifts to empower others to heal, grow, and believe again.”

It’s a reflection of my calling to serve, teach, and inspire through compassion, transparency, and faith. My mission isn’t to be perfect but to be purposeful. Every setback, every scar, every success has become part of the message I carry.

Some days I fail at it. Other days I rise fully in it. But the beauty of a personal mission statement is that it isn’t a slogan it’s a compass. It reminds you of where you’re going and why you started, even when life gets loud.

What Would Jesus’ Mission Statement Say?

If we look at the life and teachings of Jesus, His mission statement is clear and not written on a website or stone tablet, but lived out daily.

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because He has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor.

He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind,

to set the oppressed free.”

— Luke 4:18 (NIV)

That verse alone summarizes His earthly mission: to heal, to free, to restore, to redeem.

But if I were to translate that into a simple, modern mission statement, it might read:

“To bring light where there is darkness, hope where there is despair, and love where there is brokenness so that all may know the heart of God.”

Living the Mission and Not Just Writing It

The hardest part isn’t writing your mission statement it’s living it.

It means showing grace when you’d rather react, forgiving when it’s easier to be bitter, and serving even when no one is watching.

It’s waking up each day asking, “How can I reflect God’s love today?”

And sometimes that looks like comforting a friend, sharing your story, or simply choosing peace over pride.

Your mission doesn’t have to be grand or public. It just has to be real.

Reflection Prompts

If you could summarize your life purpose in one sentence, what would it say? How do your daily actions align (or conflict) with that mission? What would Jesus’ mission look like if He lived through you today and in your job, your family, or your community
