When the Brakes Failed, God Didn’t
Sunday could have been my last day here.
I was getting off the freeway like any other normal day, probably thinking about a hundred different things at once, when suddenly my brakes went out. In a matter of seconds, everything changed. The panic. The fear. The realization that no amount of planning, rushing, stressing, or worrying matters when life itself feels like it’s slipping out of your hands.
And in that moment, nothing else mattered except life.
Not money.
Not business.
Not disagreements.
Not pride.
Not who texted back or who didn’t.
Not deadlines.
Not social media.
None of it.
Just breath.
Just survival.
Just God.
It’s crazy how quickly life can remind you that we are not as in control as we think we are. One second you’re making plans for tomorrow, and the next second you’re praying just to make it through the next minute.
I sat there afterward realizing how precious time really is.
We waste so much of it.
We hold grudges too long.
We stay angry too long.
We delay love too long.
We assume people know how much they matter to us instead of saying it out loud.
We move through life thinking we have “later.”
But later is not promised.
That experience shook me spiritually because I truly believe God covers us in ways we don’t even understand. There was a protection over me that day. A grace I cannot explain. And it reminded me that every single day we wake up is an opportunity to live differently.
To love harder.
To forgive quicker.
To check on people.
To stop treating time like it’s unlimited.
Some people are silently fighting battles you know nothing about. Some people are one phone call away from breaking. Some people just need to know they matter before it’s too late.
Life is fragile.
And honestly, I think sometimes God allows moments to slow us down long enough to see what really matters. Not to destroy us, but to awaken us.
I’m grateful to still be here.
Grateful for another breath.
Another conversation.
Another chance to love people correctly.
Another chance to walk in purpose.
If you’ve been putting off telling someone you love them, do it.
If you’ve been holding onto unnecessary anger, release it.
If you’ve been running yourself into the ground, rest.
If God has been trying to get your attention, listen.
Because Sunday reminded me of something deep:
We are all one unexpected moment away from realizing how valuable life truly is.
And from this point forward, I do not want to take time, people, or purpose for granted.
